Over 280 pages describing the history of the 116 rural School Districts found within the present Vulcan County boundaries.

Included are statistics and anecdotes for each.

Also included are more than 200 black and white photos and more than 100 colored photos.

There is a special section with photographs and information about where the remaining school buildings are today and what they are being used for.

These softcover books are expected to be available summer, 2011 at a cost of $50 each, with shipping and handling $12 extra per book.
The book has been compiled by Norma Aldred as a project for the Vulcan and District Archives of the Vulcan and District Historical Society, Box 104, Vulcan, Alberta, T0L 2B0.
A notice will be put in the Vulcan Advocate when and where copies are available to be picked up.

“More than Just the Mail” gives the histories of the 48 post offices once found in Vulcan County, plus 2011 updates for mail delivery.

Personal anecdotes cover walking or riding a saddle horse miles to Stavely to pick up your own and your neighbors mail to today’s modern mailbox delivery.

One section has photos of the remaining post office buildings, with GPS coordinates for each.

The 8˝” by 11” coil bound, softcover book contains 138 pages, including almost 200 black and white photos and more than 90 color photos.

The information has been compiled by N. J. Aldred. Copies of the book will be available for sale at the Country Market at Champion’s Centennial Celebration at a cost of $30 each, shipping and handling extra.
